About 30 road miles around Stockport

The circle shows 30 miles as the crow flies. We measure our limit by road, so a few places near the edge sit just outside it.

Do we cover you?

We fit and replace skylights and rooflights within about 30 road miles of Stockport town centre, across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and the edge of the High Peak.

Takes you to the survey form on this page and adds your postcode to any WhatsApp message.

Road miles, not a straight line

We measure our area by road, not as the crow flies. The map's circle measures distance in a straight line from the town centre, 30 miles out, so treat it as a guide; our limit is 30 road miles. If your town or village is not on the list but sits close to one that is, get in touch anyway. We will tell you whether we can come out, and the rooflight survey is free wherever we go. A quick message with your postcode is enough to check.

Which council handles planning

The patch crosses a lot of council boundaries:

  • Within the borough's own boundary, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council handles planning.
  • Beyond it, each neighbouring council deals with its own area, from the other Greater Manchester boroughs out into Cheshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and West Yorkshire.
  • Peak District National Park Authority is the local planning authority inside the park boundary. Outside the boundary, the local council is.
  • Building Regulations are not a Park Authority matter: they work there as they do anywhere else in England.

Each town page describes the kind of houses found there, notes which planning authority applies and links to the planning guide for the rules on adding a skylight to a house. The houses change a lot across the area, from brick terraces and interwar semis to stone-built houses up on the hill edge, and so do the roofs above them, so every job starts with a visit.

How the lists work

Within each direction, the list runs nearest first, with the road miles beside each name. Homes are our main work, and small commercial work (an office, a studio or a flat-roofed shop, say) is welcome anywhere on the list, on the same survey-first terms.

Whichever council covers you, the free survey comes first, with a conversation about who uses the room before anything is chosen, and a fixed written quote follows. You can start with the form or a message on WhatsApp 07880 284133.
