Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Similar tools, such as local storage, do the same job in a different way. UK law on cookies, known as PECR, says a site generally needs your agreement before using them, unless they are strictly necessary for something you have asked for or fall within one of a few narrow exceptions the law sets out. This page explains what applies when you browse our pages about skylight and rooflight installation.
Section 1
Cookies this website sets for visitors
At the moment, none. Browsing this website, reading the guides and looking at the map do not place any cookie from us in your browser. The fonts and images are served from our own site, not from an outside font or image service.
If you sign in to manage the website, which only we do, WordPress sets the sign-in cookies it needs to keep that session working. Ordinary visitors never receive them.
Section 2
Analytics, only if you agree
This website is built so that Google Analytics can be added to help us understand which pages people find useful. It is switched off at present. If we turn it on, it will not load at all until you have agreed through a cookie banner, and declining will leave the site working exactly as before.
If you do agree, Google Analytics sets these cookies:
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Tells one visit from another, without naming you | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_ followed by an ID | Keeps track of the current visit | Up to 2 years |
Section 3
How your choice is remembered
When analytics are switched on, the choice you make in the banner is saved in your browser's local storage, so the site does not ask again on every page. That record is needed to respect your choice, and it holds no personal details. We will update this page before analytics are turned on.
Section 4
The enquiry form, the map and WhatsApp
- The enquiry form is provided by the system we use to manage enquiries and is shown inside our pages. That provider may set cookies the form needs to work and to stop misuse.
- The map on the home page, the contact page, the areas page and each town page loads map pictures from OpenStreetMap's servers. Your browser asks those servers for the pictures, so they see your IP address, but the map sets no tracking cookies.
- WhatsApp links open WhatsApp, which is run by Meta under its own terms and cookie rules once you are there.
Section 5
Switching cookies off
You can delete cookies and local storage, or block them, in your browser's settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of a site from working, though browsing this one needs none. For how we handle the details you send us, see how we look after your personal information. Questions about this page can go to info@soundskylightsstockport.co.uk.
Section 6
Websites we link to
Our guides link to official sources such as GOV.UK, the Planning Portal, legislation.gov.uk and council websites, so you can check a rule for yourself. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies once you arrive there. We have no control over them.
Section 7
When this page changes
If we add any tool that stores information in your browser, we will add it here first, say what it does and how long it lasts, and ask for your agreement where the law requires it. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
